Our Story

The Washington House has been part of Basking Ridge since 1871, when a local building became the Washington House Hotel. Over the decades it served as a boarding house, tavern, and restaurant before a careful renovation restored it to its former glory. In May 2014, Washington House Restaurant opened its doors, bringing contemporary American cooking and warm hospitality to the center of the village. Today, this historic landmark remains a gathering place for our community.

For some reason, we came late late. But still had a warm welcome, the staff was super friendly, and the whole restaurant was nice, clean, and bright. We ordered yellowfin tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, and clam chowder as our appetizer, I should have ordered a bowl of clam chowder instead of a cup, too good. The entree we ordered: braised beef taco and crab cake, Brussels sprouts as a side. I love all Of them. This was the first time I ordered crab cake as my main food in the restaurant, tasted so good.Overall, highly recommend this restaurant.
